The Embassy of Iceland in Ottawa, opened in May 2001, represents Iceland in Canada, one of Iceland's closest neighbors and allies.

There are more people of Icelandic descent living in Canada than anywhere else outside of Iceland. Iceland established official diplomatic relations with Canada in 1947.

The embassy's mission is to strengthen and promote political, economic and cultural relations between Iceland and Canada. Interested parties can connect directly with the embassy for information and opportunities related to trade and investment between our two countries.

Auðbjörg Halldórsdóttir

Auðbjörg Halldórsdóttir assumed her role as Iceland's Ambassador to Canada in December 2025. From 2022 to 2025, she served as Iceland's Permanent Delegate to UNESCO, representing Iceland's interests across education, culture and science, and as Foreign Policy Advisor to the Prime Minister of Iceland (2018–2022).

Prior to this, Ambassador Halldórsdóttir held several senior positions at Iceland's Ministry for Foreign Affairs. These included Director of International Security Affairs (2018), Director of Humanitarian Policy and Assistance (2014–2018), and Director of the Icelandic Crisis Response Unit (2014–2017). While in Brussels from 2008 to 2014 she served as Deputy Permanent Representative to NATO and as Political Counselor at the Icelandic Delegation to NATO. Earlier in her career she worked on files including international development cooperation and external trade.

Ambassador Halldórsdóttir holds a B.Sc. in Broadcast Journalism and an MA in International Relations from Boston University, as well as diplomas in Public Administration and in Business and Marketing Studies from the University of Iceland. She speaks Icelandic, English, French and Danish.
